Hiroshi Fukuwa Manzanar Diary
This collection consists of a diary written by Hiroshi Fukuwa, Kibei Nisei of Los Angeles, California, along with newsletters, clippings, and handwritten notes created/collected in the incarceration camps during World War II. The diary details his incarceration experiences in the Manzanar camp in California, the Gila River camp in Arizona, and the Tule Lake camp in California. All materials in this collection are born-analog objects (digital reproductions).
Kiyoko Maeda Yoshioka Photographs
The Kiyoko Maeda Yoshioka photographs collection (1916-1990, bulk 1937-1941) includes digital reproductions of family photographs primarily documenting the life of Kiyoko Maeda Yoshioka in the years before, during, and after World War II. The collection also includes digital reproductions of a short essay written by Hatsuko Mary Yoshioka Higuchi, redress papers, and a handout from a sewing class at Poston Incarceration Camp. This collection contains of over 400 black-and-white negatives and photographic prints of Terminal Island, Port of Los Angeles, San Pedro, Port Hueneme, and Catalina Island, taken between 1938 and 1947. Photographs include businesses, residences, airports, warehouses, coastlines, railroads, and neighborhoods. The collection has been digitized and most of the material is available online.
