Biographical / Historical

This sub-series contains magazine issues, reviews, and reprints published by the John Birch Society. Included are issues of the "John Birch Society Bulletin" and "American Opinion", as well as other publications. The John Birch Society was founded in Indianapolis, Indiana by Robert Welch Jr., a retired candy manufacturer in 1958. The Society, whose main purpose is to combat communism, was named after John Birch, an American Baptist missionary and United States Army Intelligence Officer who was killed by communist forces in China in August 1945.
