Abstract

The Vincent "Frank" Chavez Photograph Album includes photographs documenting Chavez' military service, Mexican-American family life in California from the late 1940s through the 1980s, and clippings and ephemera relating to life as a Vietnam Veteran.

The Kaye Briegel Chicano Pamphlets and Literature Collection (1961-1979; undated) contains three boxes of pamphlets, booklets, plays, poetry, books, comic books, children’s books, essays, short stories, and anthologies regarding Chicano communities, movements, culture, and history. This collection is arranged alphabetically by title within material type. Collection material is in both English and Spanish.

Scope and Contents The Kaye Briegel Research Collection (1900-1984; undated bulk: 1960-1980) contains eight boxes of reports, papers, case studies, monographs, articles, hearings, and court cases related to Chicano communities, movements, activism, culture, and history from publishers such as: Chicano Studies Research Center at UCLA, Marfel Association, Institute for the Study of Social Change, UC Berkeley, Mexican-American Study Project (UCLA), and R and E Research Associates. The La Raza En Acción Local audio collection (1971-1977; undated) contains 40 reel-to-reel tapes featuring audio from La Raza En Acción Local, a Latino directed non-profit organization that was located in San Francisco's Mission District. Also included in this collection are tapes featuring audio regarding another one of La Raza En Acción Local's organizations La Raza Information Center, as well as KNBR 680, KBRG, and KOFY radio shows.

Scope and Contents The Estefana Maldonado Watts Letters Collection (1964-1967) contains one box and .38 linear feet of letters sent from Maldonado to her son, Demetrio Ernesto Maldonado. The letters began in 1964 when Demetrio first went away to school. Demetrio’s exact location is unclear, although several letters reference that he spent time in Texas while away from home and at some point he transitioned into military service.
