The Peter Tiernan papers, 1966-2000, bulk 1985-1999, include various subject files comprising leaflets, flyers, drawings, articles, pamphlets, and letters regarding the administration, legal situations, and elections within the San Francisco District Council of Painters No. 8, San Francisco Painters Union Local 83, Bay Area Painters and Tapers Trust Funds, the California, San Francisco, and Marin County Building and Construction Trades Councils, and the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades, AFL-CIO. Of note is one letter to Peter Tiernan from Senator Barbara Boxer. Also included are exhibits regarding a lawsuit between the District Council of Painters No. 8 and the Painters Union Local 83, as well as The Voice, the publication of the Painters, Tapers, and Paperhangers of Northern California, The Primer, published by the Painting and Drywall Work Preservation Fund, Inc., and Hard Hat Times. One subject file regarding the assassination of Dow Wilson, who was active in Painters Local 4 in San Francisco is present, as are various publications regarding labor union management, certificates indicating Tiernan's completion of various union management courses, and black-and-white and color photographs of Tiernan and others. One San Francisco Painting Contractors Advancement Fund (SFPCAF) pen is included as well.
