Abstract

This collection consists of approximately 25 magazines and newspaper titles, as well as newspaper clippings and ballots. The collection predominantly focuses on African American social and political news, civil rights issues, and cultural and entertainment news. A large portion of the collection consists of Jet magazines but almost equally as large is the collection of Ebony magazines. Some of the titles also included are The Crisis, Los Angeles Times, The Bulletin and more.

Scope and Contents The Fort Huachuca African American Photograph Collection (circa 1940s-1950s) contains 40 black-and-white photographs featuring groups of men and women posing in front of buildings, with dogs, on a horse, and posing in front of the Colonel Young School, as well as images of tents, military vehicles, and cannons. Henry Fukuhara Paint Out Collection

Abstract

The focus of the Henry Fukuhara Collection is the art, life, and work of watercolor artist Henry Fukuhara. It includes photographs and notes from various workshops called "paint-outs," held at former Japanese American concentration camps. The collection also includes photographs from exhibits, hand painted correspondence, flyers, gallery information, books, magazines, news clippings, and DVD's. Some of this collection has been digitized and is available online.

This collection consists of a diary written by Hiroshi Fukuwa, Kibei Nisei of Los Angeles, California, along with newsletters, clippings, and handwritten notes created/collected in the incarceration camps during World War II. The diary details his incarceration experiences in the Manzanar camp in California, the Gila River camp in Arizona, and the Tule Lake camp in California. All materials in this collection are born-analog objects (digital reproductions).
