Scope and Contents
The Frances Steiner Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay Collection (1974-2018; undated) contains one box and .21 ft. of material belonging to Dr. Frances Steiner. The majority of the collection contains newspaper clippings of concert reviews from the Los Angeles Times, the Daily Breeze, and the Palos Verdes Peninsula News regarding the Carson Dominguez Symphony and the Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay. The box contains a document detailing the history of the Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay, Concert Reviews from various locations, concert reviews from the Norris Theater in Palos Verdes, an undated lifetime Member Plaque for Dr. Frances Steiner, and a pamphlet of the opening festival of the Norris Community Theatre circa 1983.

Biographical / Historical
Dr. Steiner began her music career at eight and continued her education at the Curtis Institute of Music, receiving her bachelor's in 1956. She studied at Harvard University, receiving her masters in 1958. Dr. Frances Steiner received her D.M.A. at the University of Southern California, focusing on Baroque Music performance practices in 1969. She accepted the position of musical director of the Baroque Consortium Chamber Orchestra and Chorale, founded in 1972 by Robert Mantovani, Mary Ann Schulz, and Lyle Heck in 1974. The Baroque Consortium Chamber Orchestra and Chorale was renamed the Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay in 1988. The orchestra performed in Torrance, Hermosa Beach, San Pedro, and Palos Verdes. The orchestra received prestigious grants and awards under the leadership of Dr. Steiner.
