Scope and Contents
Series II: Los Angeles Free Press issues (1964-2020) contains volumes of the Los Angeles Free Press from its initial publishing run from 1964-1978. This subseries contains the majority of the issues from 1964 to 1973 when Art Kunkin left the Free Press. The subseries contains sporadic issues of the Free Press from 1974 to 1978 when the Los Angeles Free Press changed ownership multiple times. This series also contains the revitalized Los Angeles Free Press that Art Kunkin began republishing in 1999 to 2006 off and on. This series also contains a 2020 issue of the Los Angeles Free Press published after Art Kunkin's death in 2019 that was provided to the archives when the collection was acquired.
Besides, the Los Angeles Free Press issues, this series also contains other publications connected to the Free Press enterprise. This includes Free Press Bookstore catalogs, a German issue of the Los Angeles Free Press, a parody newspaper of the Los Angeles Free Press, and an issue of Miscellaneous Man and The Clear Head, two separate publications Art Kunkin attempted to publish under the Los Angeles Free Press.
