Scope and Contents

This series contains pamphlets, newsletters, reports, articles, memorandums, and other material regarding El Salvador, and is divided into four sub-series. Sub-Series A: FMLN/FDR contains documents generated by and about Farabundo Martí National Liberation (FMLN) a Salvadoran political party that was one of the main participants in the Salvadoran Civil War; and includes formal FMLN/FDR publications such as press releases, comminques, statements, newsletters, reports, publications, and other documents as well as Radio Venceremos interviews, booklets, and articles; and material about FMLN generated by CISPES. Sub-Series B: Organizations contains pamphlets, newsletters, bulletins, memorandums, reports, and other documents generated by organizations based in El Salvador, as well as United States based advocacy groups dedicated to defending human rights and social justice causes for Salvadoran people such as: CDHES (Comisión de Derechos Humanos de El Salvador); CRIPDES (Asociacion para el Desarrollo de El Salvador); NEST (New El Salvador Today); U.S.- El Salvador Institute for Democratic Development; UNTS (Unidad Nacional de Los Trabajadores Salvadoreños) Labor Federation; and others. Sub-Series C: Subject File A-Z contains reports, articles, clippings, papers, memorandums, fact sheets, conference and event programs, and other material regarding elections, U.S. military aid, sanctuaries, human rights violations, death squads, refugees, health, Salvadoran Civil War,  and other related topics. Sub-Series D: Articles and Clippings contains newspaper and magazine clippings mostly from New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Examiner, and Los Angeles Times, as well as other publications. This sub-series is arranged by date and contains topics such as: elections, U.S. military aid, sanctuaries, human rights violations, death squads, protests and demonstrations, Jose Napoleon Duarte, Salvadoran military, Salvadoran government, refugees, political asylum, Archbishop Oscar Romero, peace talks, CISPES and illegal FBI surveillance, massacres, guerillas, and other related topics regarding the Salvadoran Civil War and El Salvador in the 1980s-1990s. Material in this sub-series is in both English and Spanish. For material regarding CISPES see Series I and II.
