Scope and Contents
The Kaji Family Collection contains materials related to the life and family of Bruce Teruo Kaji (1926-2017) as well as his wife, Frances Midori Kaji (1928-2016). Topics include Bruce's incarceation at Manzanar including records of camp and Manzanar High School reunions, his time in the Military Intelligence Service (MIS) during WWII, his time as Gardena City Treasurer, his involvement in the establishment of the Japanese American National Museum (JANM), his involvement in Little Tokyo Redevelopment, oral histories, and other general materials about his life in Los Angeles and involvement in the Japanese American community in California. Other materials related to Frances Midori Kaji concern her incarceration at Poston during WWII, as well as materials related to her family including her father Kikuwo Tashiro, one of the founders of the Japanese Hospital of Los Angeles.
Typles of materials include correspondence, photographs, organizational records for the Japanese American National Museum (JANM), programs, pamphlets, certificates, yearbooks, news clippings, official government documents, DVDs, CDs, cassette tapes, and ephemera.
