Scope and Contents
This series contains newsletters, emails, flyers, memorandums, reports, letters, meeting minutes, notes, and agendas; site maps and building layouts; tenant lists; and other material collected and compiled mostly by the Lincoln Place Tenants Association (LPTA)- formed in 1987 in response to rehabilitation evictions- as well as tenants of Lincoln Place, and people who assisted the tenants with their cause against demolitions and evictions. Topics covered in this series are events and neighborhood gatherings, demonstrations, and the legal battles tenants faced stemming from approximately fifteen years of evictions and threatened evictions due to rehabilitation from various property owners; and the LPTA’s attempts to stop demolition and evictions through efforts to purchase Lincoln Place, and designate Lincoln Place as a historical landmark. Also included in this series are articles and clippings regarding Lincoln Place mostly from local newspapers covering the evictions and rehabilitation projects; as well as material related to oral histories and documentaries about Lincoln Place; letters, reports, and other documents related to building maintenance; environmental and health concerns; tenant relations and concerns such as internet, building, and carport issues; rent; and other topics. This series also contains applications, letters of support, press releases, articles, and memorandums regarding Lincoln Place’s attempts at obtaining a Cultural Monument, National Register of Historic Places, and California Register of Historic Resources designation; and memorandums, reports, surveys, and other documents regarding Environmental Impact Report (EIR) Case No. 91-0458 (SUB) (Vesting Tract Map No. 51337) for the Lincoln Place redevelopment project.
