Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The 38 items in this series offer a representative sample of the Colibri (Hummingbird) Pages for Children, a publication by the Cafes Chocolates Aguila y Productos Saint Hermanos, one of the largest chocolate producers in Argentina. Unlike the other materials in the collection, which focus on entertainment and moral instruction through purely literary means, the items in this series offer a wide variety of information on science, art, travel, biography, grammar, and other topics. The Cafes Chocolates Aguila highlighted the pedagogical nature of the enterprise by publishing the issues only during the school year. Each issue contains short vignettes or stories, poems, practical information, jokes, and short biographies of important figures. While each issue was unique, the issues sometimes ran covers on similar thems over several months. The series contains several examples of this, with covers showing various sports, occupations, or film comedians.

While these issues were technically not for sale (and contain no outside advertising), children got them in exchange for 20 labels from Aguila chocolates. This was done to prevent hoarding and guarantee that each child could receive one.
