Scope and Contents

From the Series:

In 1975, Joyce Kornbluh initiated and directed the oral history project, “The Twentieth Century Trade Union Women: Vehicle for Social Change.” Kornbluh asked O’Farrell to conduct three of the ultimate 54 interviews transcribed and released. All the interviews were then placed in several archives for ten years before Kornbluh and O’Farrell decided to write a book based on the interviews. In total they focused on eleven interviews to present in depth stories and also did some follow up interviews. Following the release of Rocking the Boat, O’Farrell also conducted more informal interviews for her book, She Was One of Us: Eleanor Roosevelt and the American Worker. This series includes transcribed interviews that would be used for both Rocking the Boat by Brigid O’Farrell and Joyce L. Kornbluh and She Was One of Us by Brigid O’Farrell.
