Scope and Contents

This photograph album contains approximately 137 black-and-white photographs,32 postcards, and other ephemera belonging to Mary Lou Washington, an African American woman living in San Bernardino, CA. Images in this album consist of photographs taken at church; formal events; after funerals; images taken in houses and yards; school portraits of friends and family; graduation portraits; group photographs of friends and family; images taken presumably on vacations; and images of cars. There is also an image taken at presumably a family barber shop, and one image taken at the Coco Club. There are also postcards mostly of the U.S. Naval Training Center in San Diego. Most postcards are blank, but others have inscriptions on the back and were presumably sent from a boyfriend who was stationed there. Other blank postcards feature images of Fort Worth, TX., Guadalajara Mexico, Portuguese Bend, CA., Redlands, CA., and Drew County Historical Museum. This album also contains a military patch; school letterman patches; business cards; thank you notes and cards; funeral and event programs; a student progress report and report card; and a handwritten love letter sent from Patricia Lang (on behalf of Mary Lou) to Charles Edwards.
