Caption on the photograph states: "Stretcher bearing Negro Nationalist leader Malcolm X is wheeled from Audobon Ballroom 2/21 after he was gunned down by an assassin's bullets. The 39-year-old former confederate of the Black Muslim movement died a short time later at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Malcolm X is survived by his widow and four young daughters."
