Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The Commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians (CWRIC) was created in 1980 by the U.S. Congress to review the effects and circumstances for the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. The committee of nine heard testimonies from over 750 witnesses and examined the facts and circumstances surrounding Executive Order 9066, which lead to an official apology and reparations for thousands of Japanese Americans. In 1981, Aiko Herzig Yoshinaga was hired by the CWRIC as its lead researcher. Her work formed the core of the CWRIC's documentation. This series contains documents, correspondence, transcripts, document listings, witness lists, 3 1/2 inch floppy discs, VHS tapes, and newspaper clippings related to the CWRIC hearings. It also includes the numerical file index for documents from the National Archives and Records Administration.
