The University Archives houses the papers of all past CSUDH presidents. The Garcia papers consist of correspondence, memos, reports and other miscellaneous created throughout the tenure of Mildred Garcia as the seventh president of California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) from 2007 to 2012. As the first Latina president in the California State University system, Dr. García's leadership focused on fostering student success, enhancing diversity, and advancing institutional growth. The collection includes a wide range of materials that reflect her administration’s initiatives, priorities, and impact on the campus community.
The collection contains correspondence, speeches, reports, meeting agendas, and strategic planning documents that highlight her efforts to improve graduation rates, expand funding opportunities, and advocate for equity in higher education. It also includes promotional materials and event programs from key campus milestones.

Biographical / Historical
Dr. Mildred García is a distinguished academic administrator and the current chancellor of the California State University (CSU) system, a position she assumed on October 1, 2023. From 2007 to 2012, Dr. García served as the ninth president of California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), becoming the first Latina president in the CSU system. Following her tenure at CSUDH, she was appointed as the fifth president of California State University, Fullerton, a role she held from 2012 to 2018. She served as the president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) from 2018 to 2023.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. García is a first-generation college graduate. She earned an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) from New York City Community College, a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Business Education from Baruch College, City University of New York, a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Business Education/Higher Education from New York University, and both a Master of Arts (M.A.) and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Higher Education Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Throughout her career, Dr. García has held academic and administrative positions at several institutions, including Arizona State University, Montclair State University, Pennsylvania State University, Teachers College at Columbia University, and various colleges within the City University of New York system. In 2001, she became the inaugural system-wide president of Berkeley College, serving until 2007.
