Materials reflect Lyons’s involvement in academic and administrative affairs, budgetary planning, enrollment management, and campus-wide initiatives. Records also document Lyons’s role in the development of the Home Depot Center sports complex, the university’s strategic planning processes, and its relationships with the California State University system, local government, and community organizations

The collection is arranged into four series: Correspondence/Subject Files; Ad Hoc Committees, Committees, Commissions, and Task Forces; Systemwide Related Materials; and Chronological Files. Topics represented include accreditation, academic reorganization, enrollment trends, budget development, campus facilities planning, and faculty and student affairs. Materials also highlight Lyons’s participation in regional and national higher education organizations, his work with the Academic Senate and other campus councils, and his leadership in partnerships with local institutions and the South Bay community. Together, the papers provide a comprehensive view of Lyons’s administration and the broader challenges and opportunities faced by CSU Dominguez Hills in the early 2000s.
