California Faculty Association (CFA) Collection
Scope and Content
The California Faculty Association (CFA) Collection contains materials relating to the history and function of the union for faculty in the California State University (CSU) system, including professors, lecturers, counselors, librarians, and coaches. Types of material in this collection include, but are not limited to: collective bargaining agreements, correspondence and memos, ephemera, meeting minutes and agendas, and newsletters. Topics referenced in this collection include, but are not limited to: collective bargaining, election of the faculty bargaining agent, election endorsements, faculty salaries and benefits, membership information, policies and procedures, and state and CSU budgets. This collection also contains materials related to campus chapter's of CFA, particularly the Sacramento campus chapter.

History
The California Faculty Association (CFA) (formerly Congress of Faculty Association) is the union for the faculty working at all 23 California State University (CSU) campuses, including professors, lecturers, librarians, counselors, and coaches. In 1978 the State Employer-Employee Relations Act was passed in California, allowing for union representation of state employees and in 1982 CFA was voted to be the exclusive bargaining agent for CSU faculty, beating out the United Professors of California (UPC).
CFA is affiliated with Services Employees International Union (SEIU Local 1983) and the American Association of University Professors (AAUP).

Acquisition Information
Materials in this collection were transferred by the Chancellor’s Office, California State University and collected by archives staff. It is a growing collection.
Processing Information
Processed during 2004-2006 CSU System-wide Archives Processing Project. Materials integrated, expanding beyond only newsletters and finding aid updated in 2023. Finding aid title updated from "California Faculty Association/Congress of Faculty Association Newsletter Collection" to "California Faculty Association (CFA) Collection" in December 2023 by Shawne West to reflect the addition of broader organizational materials.
