Accredidation, 1971-1988

Series includes materials accumulated during Heilbron’s tenure on the Council on Post Secondary Accreditation (1972-86). Most of the materials are not written by Heilbron but pertain to the accreditation body and include correspondence, minutes, memos, briefs, draft statements, studies, reports, pamphlets, and handbooks. Some of the topics covered include legislation, recognition of schools, appeals process and confidentiality. The latter presents a challenge to the accreditation board as outlined in a policy paper Commission Actions: Maintaining Public Accountability and Confidentiality (1971) which highlights the conflict between open records and confidentiality surrounding the audit results of institutions. These files are arranged by subject and then chronological order.
